About Nawei

Nawei is a emerging Canadian artist based in Singapore. Raised in her mother’s art gallery, she grew up immersed in both Eastern and Western art traditions, which deeply influenced her creative expression and inspired her to pursue painting full-time.

Nawei's paintings have been collected internationally, she is known for her use of chinese ink on rice paper, and acrylics. Bold gestural strokes mixed with delicate details and a touch of color. Her work primarily depicts striking representations of auspicious animals or chinese mythological creatures such as her signature dragon.

Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese rice painting, Neolithic art, painted pottery, and wildlife, Nawei conceptualizes her pieces through a thoughtful process. She begins with pencil, ink, and color studies to explore compositions, movement, and form. This intuitive process culminates in fluid ink work on rice paper, enhanced with washed ink and color for depth and texture.

On the side, she would be creating comics, concept art, and other illustrations, some of her works can be seen marked in restaurants and bars, canvas bags, cup holders, and many more mediums to come. She has always been open to commissions, collaborations and creative projects and her works.
